Every year, Queens is home to one of the most high profile tennis events of the year, the U.S. Open. Thousands of fans gather to watch their favorite players and see who will win it all. With so much to see, here are our top things not to miss at this year’s U.S. Open!
Opening Night of the U.S. Open is going to be amazing. Former No. 1 Tennis Player in the World, Billie Jean King, will help kick off the event! She is also known for claiming three Grand Slam titles in 1972; the U.S. Open, French Open and Wimbledon. What a treat this will be for tennis fans!
The headlining performer is Phil Collins, known for being the front man in the 1980s band Genesis. This is his first major performance in six years and he will be performing his debut solo single, “In the Air Tonight”.
With the success of Hamilton on Broadway, Leslie Odom Jr. who originated the role of Aaron Burr, will be performing as well. He will perform a duet with Phil Collins and then, sing the National Anthem alongside the FDNY Color Guard and NYPD Honor Guard. With these and many more special guests on Opening Night at Arthur Ashe Stadium, it will be a night to remember!
The Williams Sisters
You can’t go to the U.S. Open without seeing at least one match with Serena or Venus Williams. These two amazing tennis sisters have already had amazing careers and seeing them in action is a must! Will one of them add a U.S. Open 2016 title to their list of many achievements? We hope so!
Serena Williams will definitely be a major contender after being the top seed in women’s singles for this year’s U.S. Open. Venus Williams is one player not to underestimate. She has won multiple titles during her career including four Olympic Gold Medals.
Wouldn’t it be amazing to witness a Williams vs. Williams match again like in the 2001 U.S. Open?
This year’s U.S. Open men’s singles event is going to be intense! With the top four seeds being Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Stan Wawrinka and Rafael Nadal, who knows who will win! The favorites are of course multi-title winners and Olympic medalists Murray and Nadal. Murray is definitely ready to take the title as he is coming off of winning gold and defending his Olympics Men’s Singles title.
The Amazing Food!
The U.S. Open is not all about the matches! This year, there’s some amazing food to have. For a sit down meal, Aces, Champions Bar & Grill and Toro Restaurant & Bar are the places to eat! Toro is new to the area with Spanish cuisine by Chefs Ken Oringer and Jamie Bissonnette. If you want something more on the go, eat at the U.S. Open Food Village! It has everything from BBQ to Ice Cream!
