Herald Square is one of the most iconic spots in NYC! From Macy’s to the great eats, this Downtown Tour stop you must hop-off at! 

Brief History

Herald Square is the center of the 34th Street District! The area was named after the popular newspaper, the New York Herald, which was established in 1835. The main headquarters of this newspaper resided in what is now called Herald Square.

Since then, Herald Square has become a popular destination and hangout spot for native New Yorkers and visitors! This area is also a hotspot for movie and TV shoots! The most well-known movie shot in Herald Square is Miracle on 34th Street!

Shopping

Of course, Herald Square is known for its shopping locations! You have the iconic Macy’s Herald Square aka “America’s Largest Department Store”.  It was built in 1902 and has 11 levels to explore!!! This location is most known for the Thanksgiving Day Parade and its amazing holiday window displays!

There are many other stores to shop at in the area including H&M, Gucci and Burberry. Just a short walk away is the Manhattan Mall. This small mall includes known stores such as JcPenney, Victoria’s Secret and Aeropostale. 

Food

The square has a great variety of food from fast-food to upscale. If you are visiting on Wednesdays, Thursdays or Fridays, make sure to visit the Broadway French Market! Open from 10am – 6pm, this market offers a variety of local foods from pastries to sandwiches! Wafels & Dinges is a must eat at place in Herald Square! Who can resist waffles covered in ice cream and other sweet goodies!

For great views of Herald Square and the Empire State Building, make sure to eat at Stella 34 Trattoria in Macy’s! If you love Italian food, this is the place to go! From Neapolitan pizza to gelato, this restaurant will satisfy your taste buds!

 Herald Square is in the center of it all! Besides the great shopping and food, there are popular locations and attractions to visit nearby! You can get great views of the NYC skyline at the Empire State Building! Catch a sports game or take an exclusive All-Access Tour at Madison Square Garden! If you want to just relax and enjoy the NYC atmosphere, you can sit in Greeley Square!
