Spend Your Own Night At the Museum!

There are always new things to explore and do while you’re in New York City. But what you probably didn’t know is that classic attractions like the American Museum of Natural History have so much more to offer than your classic museum tour of dinosaurs and our solar system. Whether you are visiting the city, or are already a local New Yorker, there is one thing to do for the family that will give you a most memorable night of learning, fun and adventure. Like the 2006 blockbuster “Night at the Museum”, you have a chance to spend the night in the closed doors of the AMNH and it will set you on a list adventures that you’d never get during regular visiting hours.

The American Museum of Natural History was founded in 1869. It is one of the world’s leading scientific and cultural institutions. It has 45 permanent exhibit halls including the museums paleontologist collection, containing an estimated 4.7 million specimens. It is home to the largest collection of dinosaur fossils in the world. The exhibitions cover a wide range of information about human resources, the natural world, and our universe.

Though all audiences have an opportunity to check out the beautifully educational collections of the AMNH, the museum also organizes events outside of regular operating hours. A Night at the Museum Sleepover, is a must do for the ever growing curiosity of children who are enthusiastic to learn about our world and beyond. Walking into an emptier than usual museum, and standing below the T. rex that we’ve all grown to love, you are given the chance to wander the halls at night and explore and learn on your own.

Admission includes fossil exploration by flashlight, an IMAX film in the LeFrak Theatre, a live animal special exhibition and so much more. Also included are evening snacks, a light breakfast, and cots for all the participants. But nothing beats falling asleep in the dark dimmed lights of the museum, beneath the suspended 94-foot-long blue whale, while listening to the most appropriate midnight story, “Night at the Museum”. 

For a change of pace in exploring New York City, AMNH Sleepovers are a fun way to learn and bond for families or groups. Starting at 5:45pm and ending at 9am the next morning, there are plenty of activities and exhibitions to fill the time; you might not even get to see everything on your list! Conveniently located next to Central Park, exploring the city doesn’t end here. You can take a horse and carriage sightseeing tour, visit central park zoo, and end your day in Times Square on 42^nd St. The possibilities are endless.
