The Most Famous Parade in Holiday History

The 90th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is only a week away! There hasn’t been one year that my family hasn’t watched the parade. We even tuned in from Disney World one year to watch. That’s how legendary Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is. Miracle on 34th Street sets its scene and centers majority of the movie around Macy’s and their Thanksgiving Day Parade. It has become an iconic tradition to watch each year to many throughout the country.

I think what’s so special about the parade is that even people who’ve never been to the parade still tune in every year. I will say however experiencing the parade in person is an incredible experience that I recommend to everyone.

I was lucky enough to watch firsthand when I was 13. My family and I sat on the rocks overlooking Central Park West and watched the most famous parade march by. It was an exhilarating experience to say the very least. Of course most of my concerns were snapping pictures on my digital camera of the Jonas Brothers and various High School Musical cast members.

My parents of course were more concerned with the fact that we were witnessing an American phenomenon and a staple of Thanksgiving celebrations. What’s so wonderful about the parade is that it appeals to everyone of all ages and interests. It was the first time my parents had ever attended and it was exciting for them to see something happening before their eyes that they had only watched on television for so many years.

Trust me, waking up early and sitting in the cold is well worth experiencing the parade firsthand. But if you can’t make the trip, watching from your living room in your PJ’s is also a great option. That’s how I’ll be viewing this year’s 90th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade! Don’t forget to watch next Thursday, November 24th at 9am EST on NBC (if you don’t have the opportunity to go in person). Follow @Macys on Twitter for the latest parade updates.
